Curriculum Changes
We are always looking for exciting new ways to enhance our topic-based curriculum provision. During 2018-19 we introduced coloured ribbons so the children could make links not only across subjects they learn but also from the knowledge they have learnt in previous years; we also ask them to make links to our school values. This has proved to be very successful and children are very enthusiastic about this new approach and since retruning to school in September 2021 we have introduced yet another ribbon which links their learning in school to their real life experiences out of school.
They said…
‘Linking something to another thing you have learnt the day before. The coloured ribbons are for each subject. The letters stand for Compassion, Responsibility and Courage; we put the link on a peg we talk about.’ Year 1
‘I really like seeing my link hang from the ribbon on the pegs.' Year 2
'We are able to be creative in our learning when completing our double page spreads in topic.' Year4
'Knowledge mats help us if we are looking at sticky knowledge or new words.' Year 5
‘It’s good for our learning because it brings back memories that we then share and that makes others think about it and then they remember something different and the links keep on coming.’ Year 5
'The books we read in English also link to our topic themes so we can mae even more links.' Year 6
‘I think more deeply about my learning and I really enjoy it. Trying to remember things from other years and I like thinking back.’ Year 6
To further enhance our curriculum and in order for the children to build on their knowledge we have key theme words that run through the whole school these are:

The Phonics Scheme we use is Essential Letters and Sounds. Essential Letters and Sounds
The Home Reading Scheme we use is 'Word Sparks' and our Guided Reading texts are 'Songbirds' and 'Floppy's Phonics'.
