Traders and Raiders/Victorious Vikings

In January, Year 4 had the most incredible trip to York to explore our topic of the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. We learnt so many wonderful and interesting things. We stayed at the YHA York and enjoyed the Jorvik Viking Centre, DIG (an archaeological site where we found bones and artefacts), a walk through York (learning all about its amazing history), cooking Viking bread, making Viking long ships and challenging ourselves in a Viking Myth Puzzle before acting out mythical stories. We also created some very creative shields. We learnt about social, artistic, technological and scientific developments in Viking times, looked at evidence from Viking times, drew conclusions from clues to the past and learnt about different features of Viking society. We were able to understand the past by using sources of information to gain knowledge and talked about things that have remained the same and things that have changed since Viking times. The children made the staff very proud because they were energetic, engaged and wonderfully behaved! A big thank you to Mrs Green, Mrs Powell and Mrs Winn for coming on the trip.
